Please welcome Natasha…the hands behind Bamboo Blossom!
I found Natasha on Facebook and immediately fell in love with her cute bags!
Here is Natasha to tell us a little about herself:
Hi. My name is Natasha and I am Bamboo Blossom. I live in a beautiful little village in South Africa with my boyfriend and our three dogs. I love baking and having picnics on the beach or next to the river.
Please tell us about what you make.
I make handbags and other accessories. A big change I have made in the last few months is that I only use upcycled fabrics now. I love giving something old a new life and I hate throwing anything away. I’m absolutely addicted to buying big bags with fabric scraps from charity shops. Many of my fabrics have also been given to me by family and friends. They can include old clothes, curtains, tablecloths or offcuts from sewing projects.
I studied product design, but fell in love with sewing after buying a box of antique buttons. I decided to make handbags and use the buttons on them and loved sewing from the first time I tried it.
When I started out, I used patterns from books, but I’m designing my own bags now. I get inspiration from magazines and websites, but also from bags I see people using. I also add features that I want on my own handbags, like the key-chain ribbon I put on large bags.
I love sewing, but I also like to find things to make with the tiny scraps I can’t bring myself to throw away.
Natasha is giving all Steady Hand readers a discount code to use in her shop. Thank you Natasha!
