Please tell us about yourself Jeanne.
I was born and raised in Lyon, France and my 6 siblings still live there. I have been painting since I was 3-years-old and I come from a very artistic family. I have been involved in the Arts and Crafts my whole life from Sewing to Painting on Silk and Porcelain Pottery. I love life and love nature. I am married to David Costello a wonderful artist and we have 3 wonderful daughters and 1 granddaughter. Been living in the USA since 1975 and Maine since 2011.
What do you make and sell at The Passionate Pearl?
I make Sterling Silver Jewelry with Freshwater Pearls and Semi Precious Stones. I have added 14K Gold Filled Jewelry to my Designs and love to work with both Sterling and Gold together. Actually my bestseller is a Gold and Silver Necklace. I get my ideas from everywhere I look. I am a very sensitive and observant person and notice every detail. I live in the country now and am definitely inspired by the nature around me.
I started making Jewelry after Art School when I worked with Denis a Silversmith in Biot, France (French Rivera). He was a great teacher and I ended up working very hard and learned a lot. Loving Color always…working with just plain Sterling Silver became very boring to me, so the highlight of my day was setting Necklaces and Rings with Stones.
Now I do what I loved best when I was working with him – Wire Wrapping and Hammering Silver. I love colors and shapes. I have looked for a form of art that suits me all my life and in 2004 I found the perfect combination when I started this business. I absolutely love what I do! I could work with pliers, cutters and a hammer all day long if I had enough time. Having a shop online requires a lot more work than that. The thing I miss mostly with an online business is meeting my customers face to face since I only communicate with them by email.
I got started again making my Jewelry when I was looking for a pendant to match an outfit I had and couldn’t find it. I finally went to the craft store and just bought some beads and wire and got started that way…haven’t stopped since.
What is your inspiration for your pieces?
I work as the Spirit leads. I believe we were all created in God’s image and creativity flows through each one of us. We just have to tap the source and receive. The hardest thing for many of us is to receive freely. We often believe we have to perform in order to be accepted and receive. So my way of creating is to go with the flow. Some days all I do is take pictures, some I spend entirely on my computer updating my shop. I also love bike riding or walking in the woods and get a lot of inspiration from nature.
Where do you get your supplies from?
I get my favorite supplies at the local bead store where I can see them and touch them. Feeling and touching is vital for me. Of course I can’t find everything there so I have to go online to buy my Jewelry Findings. My Freshwater Pearls and Gemstones are 90% hand-picked. I make simple designs because that’s what I find most beautiful. The elegance of simplicity never gets old.
Here are some of Jeanne’s favorite pieces:Double Ring Necklace, Infinity Necklace, Gold and Silver Necklace, Gold Filled Jewelry
HOPE, Sterling Silver Lariat Necklace, Pearl Necklace, Christian Jewelry
I love the simplicity of this necklace, and the combination of Silver and Gold is a favorite of mine. I put the main focus on the two different color circles holding unto each other, much like people holding hands supporting one another. We can’t get through life alone!
I have had many instances in my life where I wanted to give up because things were just too hard. One of them was being the mother of a very sick baby. She was in pain and there was nothing I could do for her in my own ability. So I had to turn to God. “Yes, my soul finds rest in God; my hope comes from him.” Psalm 62:4-6
Thank you Jeanne for telling us about yourself and The Passionate Pearl. Your pieces are beautiful and I wish you all the best!
