Check out my Orlando Trip: Day 1 Disney World – Disney’s Animal Kingdom post to see what we did the first 1/2 of the day.
When we left the Animal Kingdom we dropped off the stroller we rented and hopped on the tram to take us back to where we parked. We then drove for 10 minutes to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. This parking lot was A LOT busier than the Animal Kingdom. Of course, it was already around noon by this time so everyone was out and about. We parked and took the tram to the entrance of the park (or what we thought was the entrance to the park).
When we got off the tram we were kind of confused because we didn’t see the castle or any gates. We found out that we had to take either the monorail or a ferry to get to the actual park. The monorail was out of service so we had no choice but to take the ferry. While we were walking toward the ferry there was one there but we just missed the cut so we had to wait for the next one. They had 2 running but it still took 15 minutes for the next one to dock.
Once you get on the ferry it is a very short ride to the other side. You can also see the castle!
There it is! After getting off the ferry there is a short walk to the front gates were you get your bags checked and show your tickets…I think getting from your car to the park is way too long. Abby was tired by this point. But at least we were there!
Once you enter the park it is just amazing. It is a street full of Victorian looking shops and the castle is sitting at the end of the street. Just like out of a fairy tale! It is also very busy. When we walked in my husband went to go rent another stroller (another $14). Abby and I stayed right in the middle of the street and were very surprised as a parade started making its way down the street. What perfect timing!
Here it comes….
Once the parade passed by the street filled back with people but we got an amazing view of the castle.
After that we headed off to see of there was anything Abby could do. We went to the Swiss Family Treehouse thinking it was a play area type of thing but it wasn’t. It was a walk-through type of activity so we passed since Abby wouldn’t want to walk as slow as we would have to and we were afraid that we would lose her in the pack of people. We then headed over to Tom Sawyer island hoping for another play area and were disappointed again. This time you had to take a small raft over like 20 ft of water to get to the island. Then you just walked through the island and took the ferry back. At this point we had been in the park for about 30 minutes and were hot and tired. We were upset that there was nothing for Abby to do. It was very busy and everything had lines. It was past lunch time so we decided to try and get something to eat.
I don’t remember the name of the place we ate at. I do remember that it served burgers and was set up like a cafeteria. My husband and Abby waited outside while I went in and got us all something to eat. We then sat outside to eat as the dining room was packed.
After that we walked around some more but could barely push Abby’s stroller through the throng of people. We then headed back to the front of the park to do some shopping. We got Abby some new toys and then decided to call it a day. We returned the stroller and then headed out of the park to catch another ride on the ferry. Back on the tram to the parking lot and we were out of there!
Overall I think the park is great if it wasn’t so packed but for young children it really isn’t the place to go. My daughter prefers places that she can run around and just play. Disney World didn’t offer anything like that. She liked the parade and seeing the characters in it. I liked the shops. My husband probably would have went on the rides if the wait wasn’t so long.
I think if we go back when Abby is around 7 or 8 she will have a better time. That pretty much wrapped up our first day. We went back to the hotel and ordered Chinese delivery for dinner so we wouldn’t have to go out again. The food wasn’t great but at least it was filling.
Check back later to see what we did on Day 2!
