Here are the stats on this yarn from LB’s website:
Weight Category: 5 – Bulky: Chunky, Craft, Rug Yarn 6.00 oz./170 g (185 yd/169 m) 98% acrylic, 2% polyester Gauge:
Knit: 14 stitches x 20 rows = 4″ (10cm) on size 10 (6mm) needles
Crochet: 10 sc and 10 rows = 4″ (10cm) with size K-10.5 (6.5mm) hook
This yarn reminds me of LB’s Homespun yarn. They are very similar but Silky Twist is thicker and bulkier. I think this yarn would be great for shawls, blankets and fluffy hats. It is easy to get your yarn tangled in the fibers so be sure to use a big enough hook. With this yarn, I decided to make a very simple square hat. I did not use a pattern thinking I could just work my way through it. I decided to crochet a rectangle, fold it in half and sew the edges closed leaving 1 edge open for the opening of the hat of course.
Here is a close-up of the yarn so you can see the strands better:
Here is what the yarn looks like after a couple of rows:
Because I wasn’t following a pattern I just crocheted to the size I needed. In the end, I wanted a hat that would be 20 inches around and at least 10 inches tall. I chained enough to get me to the 20 inches than single crocheted each row from there. I continued to do rows of single crochets until the height reached 10 inches.
I folded the rectangle in half the long way and slip stitched the top closed. Then I sewed the other edge closed and this is what I was left with.
I sewed in the ends of the yarn, turned it inside out and voila…a square hat!
Here is a picture of my daughter trying on the hat for me…
It was loose on her since it was made for an adult. Still looked good though!
Don’t mind the mess…we were doing a little renovating. The completed project has a lot of stretch to it! It is very soft and warm. The yarn works great for hats obviously. Since working with all these great yarn I have come to realize how much I appreciate the thinner, simpler yarns. These yarns are great for certain projects but I don’t think I could crochet everything with them. Now a nice large blanket…that would be great with this yarn for sure!
Let me know what you think! Have you worked with this yarn before? What did you make?

Wondered about trying to weave with lion’s homespun. I’ve woven with other lions but might experiment.
I’d love to see it if you do! What do you weave?
I started with tapestry but moved onto handbags, scarves and now shawls on a triangle loom. Hope yo get some pics up on my blog this week and some new items in my shops.
That is very neat. Could you please send me the link to your blog and shop? I had it saved somewhere because I love to read your stories but since I have been organizing all my links I don’t know where I put it!
Sure, here s my blog link and my shop links are at the bottom.
