When it comes to toddlers the simple things are often the best. Items like boxes, blocks and even plastic cups can make a toddler’s day. Here are a few fun ideas of things you can do with your toddler:
1. Build – From blocks to cups there are many things your toddler can use to build with. My children love the simple wooden blocks. They have a weight and sturdiness that plastic blocks just can’t give. The build car ports, train tunnels, castles and houses for their dolls. All sorts of fun things can be built with just a few blocks. In the kitchen my children often build with plastic measuring cups and empty boxes as well.
2. Destroy – If your toddlers are the more rambunctious sort then destruction is the name of the game. Help them build a tall tower and then watch as they laugh in delight when they knock it down. Tossing a ball or rolling something into a stack of items is a fun way for a toddler to spend the day.
3. Imagine – Empty cardboard boxes can be a dream come true for a toddler. Help them to make a play house, a fort, a car, or any number of other fun things out of a simple box. I once brought home an empty refrigerator box and my kids had a blast playing with that until it literally fell apart. Cut in windows and doors and you have an instant play house. An empty box can also act as a puppet theatre.
4. Silly – Speaking of puppets, toddlers love to hear silly voices and expressions. Anything can become a puppet to a toddler. A Teddy bear, an old sock and even a paper lunch bag can all be turned into a puppet. Tell stories, make funny noises and let your children add their own ideas to the mix.
These are just a few simple ideas that toddlers love. From hand eye coordination to imagination and vocabulary these ideas can help your child grow and develop. Remember to keep it simple and have fun!
