In this post I will show you how to set up a FREE HootSuite account so that your new Etsy listings will automatically post to your Twitter, Facebook or Google+ social media accounts.
Signing up for a HootSuite Account is FREE. They also offer a PRO account that starts at $8.99/month. Once you create your free HootSuite account your dashboard will look a bit like this:
To enter all of your social media accounts take your mouse and hover over the toolbar on the left-hand side. Hover over the Gear – Settings (3rd from bottom) and click on Account. Scroll down and you will be able to enter the links and info for your Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Google+ accounts.
For HootSuite to automatically post your new Etsy listings to your social media accounts you are going to need your Etsy Shop RSS Feed. To do this use the link below and replace SHOPNAME with your shop name.
Once you have that. Go back to your toolbar on the left-hand side. Hover over the Gear again and click on RSS/Atom. Click on the PLUS button under the RSS/Atom title. A box will pop up where you will enter your information.
Feed URL: enter your Etsy Shop RSS Feed
Network to send feed items to: Select the social media account that you want your new listings to automatically post to. You can only select 1 feed but you can create another RSS feed if you want to send the same feed to a different social media account. HootSuite allows you to set up 2 RSS feeds with a FREE account. If you want more you have to upgrade to a PRO account.
Check this feed for new posts every: select how often you want to HootSuite to check for new listings. If you post multiple items a day you can select 2-6 hours. If you posts a couple of items a week you can select 12- 24 hours.
When new posts are found, send up to: select how many posts you want being published at a time. I think the best would be to choose 1 item at a time unless you list over 20 new items a day.
Check the box that states “Include text from post in messages.”. This will make sure that the title of your item will be shared in the post.
Prepend text to each message: Enter anything you want shown before your new listing. For example I wrote “Just Listed”.
URL shortener for links: select the shortener you want used to shorten your links. It doesn’t matter which one you select. I chose the first one.
Click SAVE FEED.
In the picture below you can see my feeds. I have 1 set up for each of my Etsy Shops. Both feeds automatically post to my Facebook page.
Now all the new listings in your Etsy Shop will automatically post to the social networks that you have selected for that feed. This is an example of my feed automatically posting to my Facebook page:
I also use Facebook to Twitter so that all my Facebook posts publish to my Twitter account automatically. This is what the same post as above looks like on my Twitter account.
Well that is it. I hope that was easy to follow and if you have any questions just leave them in the comments below and I will get back to you asap.
